According to Fehérvar FC’s official site, George Dobson will join them in the summer on a free transfer. He was also set to join this weekend for a fee before Charlton pulled out of the deal.
All in all, this news generates more questions than answers. Was the pull-out a result of fan pressure? Did Nathan Jones want to hold on to him?
Perhaps the loss to Reading spooked the board to act as relegation is a real possibility. After all, relegation would be significantly more expensive than any fee recouped for selling a key player with a few months left on his contract.
All-in-all it is rather weird, just 24 hours ago Nathan Jones was telling the media that Dobson was recovering from an injury. While it is common for clubs to keep quiet until anything is confirmed, it is an odd decision to lie when the transfer was obviously in such an advanced stage.
All we know is that Charlton were happy to sell him, presumably lining up Conor Coventry as the replacement, before pulling out in the last minute. Therefore someone deemed him irreplaceable at Charlton in the short term, the question is who?
